Prince Edward Island
Human Tissue Donation Act
Prince Edward Island adopted the 1971 Uniform Human Tissue Act and later, in 1992, amended their definition of “tissue” to follow the Uniform Law Conference of Canada’s 1990 Uniform Human Tissue Donation Act. Notably, the exclusion of blood or a blood constituent from the prohibition on sale was removed in 1992. This may mean that all tissues, including blood and reproductive tissues, fall under the expansive wording “body or body part” in the sales prohibition found in PEI’s Human Tissue Donation Act, this is, however, a debatable point.
